For this piece I was thinking of growing up in the countryside and wanted to look at “nostalgia” as a kind gardening or conservation of our memories. I thought of the wildlife I remembered as a kid, badgers, hedgehogs, kestrels, that I just don’t see so much any more, both from living in the city and also the shrinking of wild spaces for these animals to thrive. I think there is a growing nostalgia as a society, and even globally, for this disconnect from wildness. Even though this feeling is often a remembering of something lost, there is a hopefulness in nostalgia. Its a holding on to parts of our past that we want to bring into our future.
